Work Record December 14th 2012

Preparation;
For this shoot, I am going to do a more realistic shot in contrast to y previous shoots, which have had more unrealistic themes. This time I am going tp be doing more of a grungy, rock fashion shoot. I am also going to be using male models this time instead of female as in my previous shoots. This shoot should show form and tone. I will be doing this shoot in the studio.

Although neither of these photographs show exactly what I want to do for my shoot, they both contain different ideas I am putting into it. The photograph on the left by Viona Ielegems relates due to the rough, grungy feel of it and the way the model looks slightly scruffy. The photo on the right relates as it is in the studio, and I like the idea of the photographs being in black and white, which is something I may do when editing.

To prepare I need to;

·         Get some models

·         Plan what I want them to wear

·         Book the studio

·         Get props
What I hope to achieve;
During this shoot I plan to take photographs showing form and tone and representing grungy/rock fashion. I want to take from different angles and with different amounts of light to show the models and the idea in different ways. I hope from this I can develop it further with a contrasting idea.

What I actually achieved;
During this shoot I managed to get the results I wanted and am happy with how my shoot turned out. My photographs show form, tone and depth. I created the scruffy/grungy/rock fashion shoot with the use of clothes, makeup and props. To enhance the look I used a white background to show the dark colours more. I created different amounts of shadow by experimenting with different amounts of light by having both lights on, and trying with one on from both angles. I don’t have a specific angle or distance which produced better photographs and I have a range of different ones, such as just the models face, and full length.

When editing, I kept the photographs fairly natural, and just touched up some areas, and desaturated and added more contrast to the photographs. I didn’t want to over edit the photographs so they stayed looking realistic.
This is my favourite photograph from the shoot as it is similar to one from a Nirvana shoot where I did get some ideas for this shoot from. I like how this shows depth due to one model being quite close to the camera and the other being further away. I like how the composition is filled well. When editing I made it slightly lighter, but increased the contrast. I also desaturated it, but not so that I lost the colour. I enhanced the green on the focus model, which I think adds to the photograph as it makes it seem more grungy relating to the use of alcohol and cigarettes during the shoot.
I like this photograph as it is looking down on the model slightly making him seem slightly inferior, which is how some people see people dressed like this. I like the way he is looking up at the camera as it makes it seem more personal. The relaxed position he is in makes it seem more natural. This shows tone and form. When editing this photograph I desaturated this completely, and enhanced the contrast so it seems dirtier and slightly older. I also made it slightly blurry which I think goes well as it relates to the hazy look in the models eyes.
I like this photograph as the model looks quite distressed and disorientated. I like how the model fills the composition and is partly cut off. I like how this one is quite natural and the model is not looking at the camera making it seem more off guard shot. When editing this I wanted to keep it natural so I just used curves and levels as I thought the photograph didn’t need over editing. I did make the area around his eyes darker though to enhance the grungy look I was going for.
What I am going to do next;
From this shot I want to develop it and add a contrasting idea using the same models but different idea. I want to create a more posh, Chelsea look to show the complete opposite idea. I would keep the background the same and the models the same as I have in my previous contrasting shoots.

Work Record December 4th 2012

Preparation;
For this shoot, I am going to develop my previous ballet idea by creating a contrasting shoot. For this I am going to use the same model as I did previous to keep it continuous. I am going to change the look though, from innocent to dark. To do this I want to use dark colours and some makeup.

These are some photographs I got inspiration from. I especially like the close up face photograph as I like the makeup and the colour of the eye as it enhances the dark feel. I like the pose and the dark leotard and skirt in the other one. I also like the background, but I am doing my shoot in a studio with a black background so the model is the focus with no distractions.

To prepare I need to;
·         Plan what I want my model to wear
·         Plan makeup ideas
·         Book studio
·         Plan what poses I want my model to do
·         Plan the angles which will show her dark and superior

What I hope to achieve;
During this shoot, I hope to create a dark shoot in contrast to the bright and happy shoot I done previously with similar ideas.

What I actually achieved;
I am quite happy with this shoot, and although some photographs did not turn out as well as I thought I mainly got good results. I took a variety of head shoots and full body ones from different angles and showing various ballet poses. The angles that worked best were looking up at the model as it showed her as more superior. The closer up photographs also worked well as they show more emotion. Instead of using a black background for these photographs I used a blue one so that the black clothing and the models dark hair would stand out. To enhance the dark feel, I got the model to wear black heavy eye makeup and have her hair loose and messy in contrast to how neat I had her look in the previous shoot.

When editing, I kept it relatively simple just enhancing and darkening the colour, increasing the feel and perfecting the photographs.  Overall, these photographs have turned out really well and I am happy with the end result.

I really like this photograph, as it is from a slightly lower angle that the model, but still shows from almost a eye level view. I like how the model is going across the model of the composition and filling it up. I also like how it is quite simple and not over edited. When editing this I kept it quite simple without changing the colours drastically. The only significant thing I done when editing this photograph, I changed the eye colour to black. This makes it more eerie, while seeming realistic due to the fact I kept the colours natural.

 This is most likely my favourite photograph from this shoot due to the angle, composition and editing. The angle is slightly below and the model is looking down at the camera enhancing the dark look. The position puts part of her face into shadow making it darker. But what I most like about this is the editing. I painted over areas in her face to smooth it over and add more shadow and highlight to certain areas. I also enhanced the makeup and changed the colours to slightly greyer and bluer. This helps create a more unnatural, eerie photograph.

What I am going to do next;
As I have now done the contrasting shoot to the previous ballet shoot and am happy with how they have both turned out, I am going to move away from this idea.
During my next shoot I am going to use the studio and do a more grungy, fashion type shoot which is different to the shoots I have previously done.

Work Record November 30th 2012

Preparation;
As this shoot is connected to a previous shoot where I used myself as the subject, I will also be the subject for this shoot. To create the doll effect, I will be using facepaints and wearing a wig. The colours I plan on using are bright pinks to contrast the colours in my last shoot.  This shoot will relate to the formal element, form. I got the idea of this shoot from my previous shoot as my theme is to create contrasting ideas

These are two photographs I got inspiration and ideas from. I like the simplicity of these, and the use of colour. Although I like the idea of the head being held and away from the body, I will not be using this idea as it makes it look slightly dark, which is not what I want.

To prepare I need to;
·         Plan what face paints and colours I am going to use
·         Set up the camera correctly
·         Plan what poses and angles I am going to use to show the meaning of the shoot

What I hope to achieve;
During this shoot I hope to create a contrasting shoot to my previous darker one with the same doll theme. I want to show happier emotions and ideas in contrast to darker ones.

What I actually achieved;
I am quite happy with this shoot as I achieved what I wanted, which was a contrasting shoot to my previous one. I achieved this with the use of colour. I decided to use pinks as it created a more typical doll look. To make the colour stand out and show a more innocent look, I used a white background. This shoot shows tone and colour due to the use of colour, and form due to the positions and angles. The photographs that worked better were where I was positioned more central, with both lights on.
When editing some of the better photographs, I decided to try out different effects and styles. I was quite successful with these effects and they fit in well with  the look I was creating.

This is my favourite edit from this shoot. I like this as it shows a sort of movement and speed through the blur and drag of the colours. I chose to use a pink colour for this as that is the colour that  I used for my hair and makeup . I think the composition in this is important as the fact I am just to the right instead of central means I could drag the image. Although it was a happy shoot, this looks slightly darker due to the expression.

I like this photo due the pose and the colours. I like how I covered my eyes as if I do not want to look at something, which makes it seem more innocent. During the shoot, I had both of the lights on and was standing fairly close and central, meaning the photo came out very bright enhancing the tones and colour. I like how I am central as this emphasises my importance in the photograph. When editing, I just enhanced the pink colours and the blues slightly to make them stronger and more vivid.

I like this as it is quite simple. During the shoot, I decided to use tape over my mouth and look like I am saying to be quite. This looks innocent and like I am also hiding something. For this I decided to create a puzzle look. I done this as I did not want to over edit the photograph. I quite like this effect with this photograph as I think it enhances the slight mystery and the loose puzzle pieces make it seem like there is something I am hiding.

What I am going to do next;

As I have now completed the contrasting look surrounding the doll idea. I am really happy with the two different ideas together and I am happy with how the two separate shoots went and the overall finished result.
As this idea is now complete I am going to move away from this idea and work on my other ideas. During my next shoot I will shoot a contrasting idea for my previous ballet shoot.

Inspiration for Developmental Shoot

 This is a photograph by Rankin. I am using these photographs for inspiration as for my next shoot, I am using the doll theme from my last shoot, but to contrast it, instead of shooting negative, dark photographs I am going to focus on happier ideas. I am going to do this by using bright bold colours. I like these photographs as they are colourful and bold. I do like the idea of them having no body and being held, but I don't think I will use it as it gives it a dark edge which for this shoot I do not want.

Work Record November 23rd 2012

Preparation;
For this shoot, I am going to use myself as the subject. I am going to use face paint as I want to create a evil doll sort of effect. I want to do this as I can develop this in a later shoot. This shoot will relate to the formal elements as I want to show form. I got this idea from some of the artists I have been looking at that focus on more gothic ideas. I am going to use the studio as it not add any distractions due to location, and the focus will be clear.

These are some makeup ideas that I am going to use to create my own look.  I like the idea of the cracked effect as it gives it a broken china doll look, which adds to the old, creepy look.  I also really like the bleeding eyes look, as it adds a bit more creepiness, but the tears make it look slightly more innocent in contrast to the dark, evil look.
To prepare I need to;
·         Chose what makeup design I am going to use
·         Set up the camera in the correct position
·         Decide the type of poses and angles I am going to do
What I hope to achieve;
During this shoot I plan to create some photographs showing form and evil/dark emotions and ideas. I am only shooting shoulders up so that the ideas behind this shoot aer shown through facial expression and emotion.

What I actually achieved;
Overall, I am quite happy with how my shoot turned out, especially as it was my first shoot where I used myself as the model. My photographs show form quite well as I created different positions and used different angles. The photographs with the best results are the ones that are closer up as the further away ones show less of the detail on the face, therefore not showing the idea of shoot. I also tried different lighting, having both lights on and turning one off. Not lighting worked particularly better that the others, as it depended on where I was, and what angle i was facing.
Something I decided to do during the shoot was to use props. I decided to experiment with using a doll and some rope. The ideas with the doll mainly worked really well, as It went with the creepy doll idea that I was creating. The rope did not work as well as the doll, as it did not fit in with the idea. Some photographs did not work to good due to composition and lighting.

This is my favourite photograph from the shoot. I like this as I like the position of my head, slightly tilted back and looking straight ahead at the camera as it looks quite creepy. I like how the doll is in it and slightly in front of me. I also like how the doll is hanging from the top, as it helps the eeriness of the photograph. I think that the doll is what makes the photograph, as without it the composition could look a bit empty. When editing this, I made my eyes slightly red, as they are central, making them a focus point, and the red enhances that. I also increased the contrast and slightly de-saturated the colour.

I like this photograph as I like the angle, and the lighting.  I like the angle as I am facing the side, but my head is turning back towards the camera. During this photograph I only had one light on, the left one. Having just one light on meant that there would be more shadow, lighting my face and making my hair dark, blending it into the background, creating shadow. When editing, I just removed the orange and yellow tones in this, and increased the blues to make it look colder. I also made the blood slightly brighter, and the rest of the photo brighter, but without increasing the colour.

I think this photograph is quite good, and simple. I like how it is really close up and straight ahead. During this photograph I had both lights on, so that there would not be any side brighter than the other. I like how even though my head is straight on in front of the camera in the middle, but it is slightly tilted down to the side. When editing I made the purple lips brighter and stronger, as well as making the blood brighter. I also made my hair redder and darker. To make the photo look creepier, I also made my eyes darker, almost black. I did not make them fully black so that they would not lose the shape and tone.
What I am going to do next;
To develop this shoot, I am going to a contrasting one, where I keep with the doll theme and still use myself as the model to keep it mainly the same. But instead of it being dark and creepy, it will be bright and colourful, contrasting this shoot. To do this, I will still use face paints, but not include the blood, cracks or stitches.
