Work Record December 4th 2012

Preparation;
For this shoot, I am going to develop my previous ballet idea by creating a contrasting shoot. For this I am going to use the same model as I did previous to keep it continuous. I am going to change the look though, from innocent to dark. To do this I want to use dark colours and some makeup.

These are some photographs I got inspiration from. I especially like the close up face photograph as I like the makeup and the colour of the eye as it enhances the dark feel. I like the pose and the dark leotard and skirt in the other one. I also like the background, but I am doing my shoot in a studio with a black background so the model is the focus with no distractions.

To prepare I need to;
·         Plan what I want my model to wear
·         Plan makeup ideas
·         Book studio
·         Plan what poses I want my model to do
·         Plan the angles which will show her dark and superior

What I hope to achieve;
During this shoot, I hope to create a dark shoot in contrast to the bright and happy shoot I done previously with similar ideas.

What I actually achieved;
I am quite happy with this shoot, and although some photographs did not turn out as well as I thought I mainly got good results. I took a variety of head shoots and full body ones from different angles and showing various ballet poses. The angles that worked best were looking up at the model as it showed her as more superior. The closer up photographs also worked well as they show more emotion. Instead of using a black background for these photographs I used a blue one so that the black clothing and the models dark hair would stand out. To enhance the dark feel, I got the model to wear black heavy eye makeup and have her hair loose and messy in contrast to how neat I had her look in the previous shoot.

When editing, I kept it relatively simple just enhancing and darkening the colour, increasing the feel and perfecting the photographs.  Overall, these photographs have turned out really well and I am happy with the end result.

I really like this photograph, as it is from a slightly lower angle that the model, but still shows from almost a eye level view. I like how the model is going across the model of the composition and filling it up. I also like how it is quite simple and not over edited. When editing this I kept it quite simple without changing the colours drastically. The only significant thing I done when editing this photograph, I changed the eye colour to black. This makes it more eerie, while seeming realistic due to the fact I kept the colours natural.

 This is most likely my favourite photograph from this shoot due to the angle, composition and editing. The angle is slightly below and the model is looking down at the camera enhancing the dark look. The position puts part of her face into shadow making it darker. But what I most like about this is the editing. I painted over areas in her face to smooth it over and add more shadow and highlight to certain areas. I also enhanced the makeup and changed the colours to slightly greyer and bluer. This helps create a more unnatural, eerie photograph.

What I am going to do next;
As I have now done the contrasting shoot to the previous ballet shoot and am happy with how they have both turned out, I am going to move away from this idea.
During my next shoot I am going to use the studio and do a more grungy, fashion type shoot which is different to the shoots I have previously done.
